INLAYS

Despite the fact that inlayed objects go back to the Romans and Greeks, the art of inlaying had its pin point during the Renaissance (c. 1400 AD). The procedure consists in the use of ornamental designs and motifs using sheets of various essences of precious wood. These are then totally perforated and mounted. Shading is made by using the heat of hot sand. The inlaid sheet is then applied to the line structure of the furniture. The whole procedure is completely undertaken manually by the Colombo Mobili inlayers.
